Chamaret
Mairie26230 Chamaret

The medieval village of Chamaret is dominated by the ruins of the former feudal fortress and its keep built during the 12th century. The site has an exceptional view of the countryside and neighbouring villages. The medieval wall remains, and two fortified doors are still going.

Chamaret is dominated by the superb ruins of the 33-meter-high feudal keep, still in good condition, which was part of the fortified castle built in the early 12th century by the Dodon de Chamaret lords.

The village still retains traditions such as the votive feast of Saint-Barthélemy, Farandole des haricots in memory of the 1st harvest, made on the seigneurial lands of the paluds distributed among all the peasants, in 1792.
