As you wander through the narrow streets, you'll admire doors and windows framed with carved stone...

The first medieval village was located at Saint-Bonnet, near the Carolingian priory, on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa. This first village was abandoned in the 13th century, and the inhabitants took refuge on "le puy" under the protection of the castle.
The château: built in the late 12th / early 13th century, this rectangular structure is flanked by four towers, one of which forms a keep. Nearby is the guard room, with a huge fireplace and vaulted ceilings resting on an enormous central pillar. An inner courtyard with a hexagonal Renaissance tower, ogival door and spiral staircase. The château was listed as a historic monument in 1957.
The château, with its four corner towers and restored enclosure, is owned by the de Pontcharra family, descendants of the Banne de Puygiron family. On December 29, 1786, Jean Charles Frédéric du Port, Marquis de Pontcharra (1767-1854) married Paule-Lucrèce de Banne (1765-1841), sister of Charles-Sébastien de Banne, the last Marquis de Puygiron. She inherited Château de Puygiron on his death on March 5, 1836.
