La Baume-Cornillane

La Baume-Cornillane
26120 La Baume-Cornillane

The small village of La Baume-Cornillane is the starting point for numerous hikes and the not-to-be-missed trail to the "center of Pangaea".

One of the smallest communes in the conurbation, La Baume-Cornillane is home to a treasure trove of landscapes and history. Located at the foot of La Raye (Vercors), La Baume-Cornillane offers remarkable views over the valley. La Baume-Cornillane (Balma cornillon) owes its name to the presence of a grotto known as the Lady's grotto (Catherine de Cornillan), belonging to a family of local lords whose coat of arms consists of three crows.

Remarkable or picturesque sites
- La Pangée : Geologist M. Monod determined the center of the original Pangea at La baume-Cornillane (anecdote), and this center can be symbolized by an upright rock that was honored in 2001 with signage, even if it remains anecdotal. To commemorate this event, a dry cake, "La Pangée", was created by a Chabeuillois pastry chef, Mr. Brun.

- Panoramas and viewpoints
. Pangea: The center of the world, Pangaea, marked by this famous tilted rock, is also a hiking trail along the ridges at the foot of the Vercors.
. Le Donjon: a viewpoint overlooking the entire Valence plain.
