Sur les pas d'Adèle

Adèle Clément, the famous cellist of the first half of the 20th century, gave her name to this walking tour of Puy-Saint-Martin. She'll be your guide, and you'll follow in her footsteps to discover the village she loved so much...

The circuit is a loop starting from the Town Hall (signs 1 and 15). A picnic table has been set up along the way. The walk culminates at the belvedere (Christ on the Cross and orientation table), with a 180° view.

Adèle Clément, born on February 2, 1884 in Saint-Gengoux-le-National (Saône et Loire), began her musical studies in Paris, where she was awarded 1st prize for cello at the Conservatoire National in 1902.
In 1928, she inherited from her father, Jean-Baptiste Clément, a railroad entrepreneur born in Clermont-Ferrand, the "new château" (now the village hall) with its outbuildings and garden.
Her life as an artist took her on many trips: to England, Spain and Portugal, and also to Algeria and Morocco in 1923 and 1925; in 1930-1931, she even performed in China and Japan. She brought back many souvenirs from her travels, some of which can be seen at the Musée de Die.

In Puy-Saint-Martin, she set up an auditorium on the 1st floor of the barn (now the village hall), where concerts and puppet shows were performed. She also sang with the village choir and gave a concert in the church every August 15, accompanied by a pianist friend.
In 1955, she sold her house to the commune as a life annuity.
An atypical character, she left an endearing and respectful memory for the Puy-Saint-Martinois who knew her.
Adèle died on August 28, 1958 in Paris, and is buried in the Puy-Saint-Martin cemetery.
The park opposite the town hall bears her name, as does the room above the village hall, known as "Adèle's granary".
