The quarryman's walk
Ancienne carrière de Saint Restitut, D21826130 Saint-Restitut

This walk will take you to the heights of Saint-Restitut to discover the old quarries that made the area famous. You'll also enjoy some exceptional views!

Start from the Route du Belvédère on the D 218, about a mile from the village.
Park on the left side of the road, 30 yards after a green gateway on the right.
At the level of the concrete pylon (marked with a green circle) take the little footpath that climbs on the right and enters the woods. At the top of the three steps, you will see an information panel about the landscape.
Follow the footpath for about a hundred yards, then turn right, go down for about 30 yards, turn left and carry on to the Carrière du Faucon (the Quarry of the Falcon).
Go across it, take the little footpath that goes uphill on the right to the track on the ridge. Turn immediately left. On the right is an exceptional panorama stretching from the Vercors to Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains.
Carry on along the footpath (roughly 700 yards) which winds between evergreen oaks. Where the tracks meet, turn left and then immediately right. Go uphill and turn left onto the track. On your right is a lovely view of the town of Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux and the mountains of the Ardèche.
Further on there is an awkward downhill section.
Go past the ruined buildings (dwellings and a farm on the left).
Bear right and go down the path.
Pass the ruins of the 17th-century brake house.
Carry on along the path, bearing slightly left. At the fork, go up the left-hand path, pass another ruin on your right and go as far as the 19th-century brake house.
From there, go left along the line of stone blocks (which were once the loading docks) for 90 yards.
At the fork, bear left. After 150 yards you will arrive at the old Théâtre d’Images which you pass on the left.
Warning! Don't go into the quarries (risk of falling rocks).
Carry straight on to the intersection with the footpath you started on, and return to your start point.
