Hike (in the steps of the Huguenots) : Poët-Laval to Die
Pedestrian sports, HikingVercors Escapade is offering you a holiday break on the move: the road to exile of the Huguenots living in the Dauphinois. Easy hiking on forest tracks and good paths, from Poët-Laval to Die.
To follow the path into exile of the Huguenots from the Dauphinois today is to return to age-old paths, some used by peddlers and some following Roman roads, all used by Huguenots when they took flight. It's also a question of soaking up the landscapes you walk through and understanding landscape change over the intervening three centuries.
Your point of departure is Poët-Laval, a hill-top medieval village, listed as one of the most attractive in France. Your visit to the "Musée du Protestantisme Dauphinois" will help you understand the whys and wherefores of this important movement of exile. You will subsequently discover the towns of Dieulefit, Bourdeaux and Die, key redoubts of Protestantism in the Dauphinois.
