La Penne-sur-l'Ouvèze
26170 La Penne-sur-l'Ouvèze

To get to La Penne-sur-l'Ouvèze, take the petite départementale 525, a wooded road that runs alongside the Ruisseau des Aspirants. La Penne is a small commune located between Cost and Pierrelongue, 6 km from Buis-les-Baronnies.

Isolated in a verdant landscape, the commune is made up of a number of hamlets, and stands out for its dispersed settlement pattern. No village is visible around the local town hall, located to the south of the territory. The houses are scattered across the cool, rolling countryside, amidst vineyards and apricot fields.
The main village, at the end of the asphalt road, was built at the foot of the Roux ravine to the west and the Treille ravine to the east. The dozen or so houses that make up the village have retained their authentic appearance. In the past, the village was called "Mérindolet" because of its proximity to Mérindol-les-Oliviers and the surname of its inhabitants: the "Mérindols", in other words those who came from Mérindol, since in the Middle Ages, it was not uncommon to use the place of origin as a surname. Before the 13th century, it was also called "Rossignole", after the many birds that sang, and still haunt, the trees on both banks.
