Allex
Due south, built on a long limeston hill parallelto the river Drôme, Allex comptemplates the horizon towards the Vercors, the foothills of the Alps and the Cevennes. Discover the tower, the doors of the fortification and picturesque streets.
At the foot of its tower, the only vestige of an 11th-century castle, houses
on the sunny slope. Although few vestiges remain of the Motte de la Tour Ronde, the castle built by the bishops of Valence in 1318, two of the three gates of the wall that surrounded the village still stand. With its narrow streets, steep staircases and andrones (stepped streets covered by houses, comparable to Lyon's traboules), the restored village has retained its medieval charm. Everything here invites you to take a picturesque stroll through the maze of old streets.
