Artiste Ricardo Ponce

Cuban Ricardo Ponce has been living in Valence, France for several years. It's in this Drôme town that the painter, sculptor, ceramist and gallery owner practices his art.

He composes a whole universe of ambiguities, where Caribbean chromaticism and the imprints and feelings of a world in which he grew up are skilfully blended. Ricardo Ponce is influenced by Art Brut, but above all by the Dada movement and Cubism. These include the painters Jean Dubuffet and Georg Grosz, active in the Dada movement, and Pablo Picasso during his Cubist period. Ricardo Ponce creates a world of his own, borrowing from bestiary, unstructured faces and bodies, influenced by cubism, the sacred, Afro-Cuban and mysticism.
