Chapelle Notre Dame de Beauvoir
Atop a sheer hill, Chapelle ND de Beauvoir (or Beauver) seems to watch over the commune of Rousset. A "draille" (sheep trail) from the village takes you (1h) to this important pilgrimage site of the white penitents.
The chapel was built on the site of ND de Bellevue, which was already mentioned in the 14th century, after shepherds discovered a statue of the Virgin Mary. Altered several times (17th, 18th & 19th centuries), the oldest part dates back to the 12th century (the Romanesque choir).
A register records the miracles performed in the 17th century. The statue of the Virgin Mary was moved to the St Mayeul church in Rousset-les-Vignes.
A major pilgrimage site for the White Penitents, who used to make their way here in procession from the village, via the "draille" (path) with its oratories and Way of the Cross, notably on August 15 and September 8. Today, at the beginning of September, a procession is organized to the chapel on foot, followed by a religious celebration.
