Discovery tour of Suze la Rousse
Could the flamboyant ginger color of Marguerite des Baux’s hair bear the origin of the name « La Rousse » ? Or perhaps the warm shades of the stone ? One thing we can be sure of is that the town’s castle staged many eventful moments since its construction in the 12th century. Throughout its history, the town stood as a symbol of duality of powers. Seigneurial powers on the one hand with the fortified castle and religious power on the other hand with its church and its bell tower. Shaped by everlasting conflicts between the kingdom of France and its rivals from Provence, a visit to Suze-La-Rousse gives the visitor a vivid insight into the history of France.
