Eglise Sainte Croix

Built during the Crusades, it was originally a chapel dating back to the 12th century. First dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre (Sancti Sépulcris de Balmis), then to the Holy Cross, it comprises three distinct sections.

Initially, the building took the form of a Greek cross, i.e. a cross with four branches, each ending in a semicircular apse.
Around the 15th or 16th century, the chapel of the Holy Sepulchre underwent the following modifications:
reconstruction of the central vault and supporting columns (Gothic style) ;
addition of a porch forming a façade to the northern apse. In the center, an ogival doorway has been walled up; 2 triangular columns, the tympanum of which is occupied by a beautiful shield, sculpted in relief; it is inscribed in a four-lobed rosette like those found on coins of the period;
lastly, an elegant arcaded bell tower, built over the apse opposite the porch and also stamped with the same coat of arms. It ends in a triangular gable, surmounted by a stone cross, decorated with flowers in the style of 16th-century rogatory crosses.
