Espenel
Ajouter au carnet de voyage
The name Espenel comes from the Latin "spina" meaning thorn, as the village is built on a rocky spine. The promontory of the temple offers a panoramic view of the Vercors foothills and the Drôme valley.
An old hilltop village, it was burnt down by the Nazis in 1944 (memorial). You can still see ancient medieval arched gateways, a beautiful 3-basin fountain and a temple.
