Eygaliers
26170 Eygaliers

The village of Eygaliers, 6 km from Buis-les-Baronnies, lies at the mouth of the Derboux valley.

Built on a hill, Eygaliers is crossed by the river Derboux, which flows into the Ouvèze at Pont de Cost. The valley runs between two mountains: Nible to the north and Bluye to the south. It is bordered by the departmental road 72, which leads from Buis-les-Baronnies to Montbrun-les-Bains via the Col de Fontaube. Classified as a remarkable road, it offers magnificent panoramic views of the north face of the Ventoux.

Today's village is located on both sides of the road: a few estates to the north, a few hamlets in the surrounding area and the medieval-style village on the hill to the south. To reach the village, cross a small bridge and stand beside a wash-house. It is fed by the Jas spring. Listed as one of the Drôme's heritage lavoirs, its construction dates back to 1886. For many years, it was the village's main meeting place. It also bears witness to the progress of public hygiene, for before taps existed in homes, in addition to these communal washhouses, only the great lords could afford private basins.
At the top is a ruined 13th-century feudal castle overlooking the village. Today, it is privately owned.
The village's geographical location makes it ideal for walks and hikes: the Petit Ubac tour, the Bluye mountain, etc.
