« intimist » Drôme (route nb6)
Unmissable : Crest, its tower, one of the highest in France at 52m, the old town, the Drôme valley (crystal clear water with views towards the Trois Becs), the remarkable road following the course of the Roanne river (magnificent and wild with fresh clear water) via the ‘Gorges de l’Escharis’, le ‘défilé de Trente Pas’, the passage over the Col de la Chaudière under the Trois Becs and the Saou forest.
The + of this circuit : The light of the ‘midi’ over the villages, the stone houses, the wild landscapes. Saillans with its 16th century churches, its vaulted alley ways, its fountains ; St-Benoît-en-Diois, a hilltop village with its Romanesque church; St-Nazaire-le-Désert, a typical village; Cornillon-sur-l’Oule (Pas des Ondes lake); Rémuzat (site of the old village opposite, 11the century chapel and its ‘Maison des vautours’ [vultures]); Villeperdrix, with its old restored village, the Romanesque church at Crupies.
