Izon-la-Bruisse
Izon-la-Bruisse is located in the southeast of the département, 12 km from Séderon. The nearest communes are Eygalayes, Vers-sur-Méouge and Laborel.
During the Middle Ages, this land belonged to the barons of Mévouillon, then passed in 1270 to a younger branch of this family, who paid tribute to the Dauphin du Viennois, Count of Gapençais. Towards the end of the 15th century, the last heiress of this house brought it as a dowry to the Grolée-Bressieu family. In 1608, the latter sold it to the councillor Charles Tonnard. His only daughter married into the Vaulserre des Adrets family, who held Ison until the French Revolution.
Prior to this pivotal period, Ison was a community of the Montélimar election, subdelegation and bailliage of Buis, forming a parish of the diocese of Gap. In the early 18th century, its church was dedicated to Saint Rémy, and its dimes belonged to the prior of Mévouillon. In 1790, together with Villefranche-le-Château, Ison became a municipality in the canton of Montauban-sur-Ouvèze, known as Villefranche-Izon-et-Chabreil, and then, in year VIII, a separate commune in the canton of Séderon.
On February 22, 1944, the local base of the Maquis Ventoux was attacked by German troops.
