La Scourtinerie

La Scourtinerie
36 rue de La Maladrerie26110 Nyons

Founded in 1882, the Scourtinerie is unique in France. Formerly used for the traditional extraction of olive oil, scourtins made of coconut fibre, are since 1956 produced for coasters and Provencal rugs in shimmering colours.

Founded in 1882 by Ferdinand and Marie Fert, this family business is now run by Frédérique and Arnaud Fert, the great grandchildren of the founders. The scourtin is a filter used for the extraction of olive oil, it is woven from rot-proof and very resistant coconut rope. Since the freeze of 1956, scourtins have also been used as trivets and Provençal rugs. Discover the weaving workshop as well as the scourtin museum which traces the history of the family business through the generations.
The Scourtinerie diversifies and launches in 2018 its new original creation: The Umbrella in 100% natural fibre, rot-proof and resistant to bad weather.
Open year round. Closed on Sundays. Guided tours for groups on reservation.
