Maison Pierre de Richard

Maison Pierre de Richard
Maison Pierre de Richard28, rue de l'Hôtel de Ville26400 Crest

The construction of this house probably dates back to the 15th century. Pierre de Richard, a "vice-seneschal" in the 17th century, was the first known owner of the place. For over 100 years, the ground floor was a hardware store owned by several persons.

Pierre de Richard - vice-senechal of Crest in the last quarter of the 17th century - is the first mentioned owner of this townhouse, which was probably built in the 15th century.
Extending well beyond the street line, it seems to have been preserved as a precious witness to the architecture of a bygone era.
The first floor features two side-by-side bays with semicircular arches supported by a central pillar. On the right, the entrance door precedes a small low-arched bay, followed by a small window. The carriage entrance on the far left leads to the apartments.
The whole forms a continuous series of storefronts suitable for displaying objects; this is how the hardware trade has been run by successive owners for over a century, a unique fact in the annals of the profession.
