The origin of the name comes from "mal" (bad) and "essart" (newly cleared land). 1514 Mal Eyssart. 1575 Malessart Malissard was originally an outlying district of Chabeuil, and remained so until the 19th century.

Highlights
- Saint-Maurice church: built in 1725 on the ruins of a small chapel built in the Saint-Maurice quarter, but already in ruins in the 17th century.
- Statue of the Virgin Mary, leaning against the north wall of the tobacconist's shop in the village center.
