Montclar-sur-Gervanne
From the summit of the Montclar hill, one dominates all Gervanne. The Romanesque Saint-Marcel church of the 12th century offers of a breathtaking circular panorama taking place as far as the eye can see of the Vercors in the country of Bourdeaux. Also worth visiting is the Château de Vachères at the foot of the village.
The houses are lined up below, against the wall of the 14th enclosure, called "vingtain", the name of the tax which was used for its maintenance.
It keeps one of its two doors, the Bayard door, at the main entrance of the town, and two round towers. A walkway was once around the mound. In the hamlet of Vaugelas, the small peasant church St Jacques and St Philippe, and its "campanile" housing a remarkable mechanical clock, are worth a visit. At the foot of the village, the Château de Vachères, a magnificent moment listed as a Historic Monument, is open by reservation for guided tours. It also hosts concerts and other festivities.
