Excavations of potsherd, flint and bones give evidence of human presence since at least the Neolithic period. At the end of the 19th century, the depopulation of the countryside affects Montségur and the old abandoned village fell into decay (only remains Saint Felix chapel, 11th century). The vast plateau of sandstone favours the culture of truffles and ensures Montségur reputation in the Drôme department.

Montségur sur Lauzon is a small commune of 1,317 inhabitants. Located in the Drôme Provençale region, it enjoys a very pleasant climate. With its remarkable heritage, you can admire monuments and sites that have retained their original character. Be sure to visit the old village where, from the top of the ramparts of the ancient citadel, you can enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the Drôme Provençale, the Château de Grignan, Mont Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail, etc. Thanks to the orientation table, you'll be able to identify numerous viewpoints. During your walks, circuits or hikes, you'll discover magnificent Romanesque churches and chapels, little architectural jewels, and historic sites such as the Pont du Martinet or the Bassin des Druides.
