Plaisians
Plaisians is a small, isolated village in a cul de sac, 11 km from Buis-les-Baronnies. Facing it and its lush green lands is Mont Ventoux.
The name Plaisians, Plazianum in Latin, can be translated as "park", "enclosure" or "place of pleasure".
Indeed, it's a place of peace and tranquility, disturbed only by the sound of herds passing through the surrounding fields.
To get there, you have to cross a clue: two limestone rocks that seem to embrace each other but leave a narrow passageway traced over time by the river below, the Derboux. The surrounding rocks take on human and animal forms: an eagle, for example, but also a bishop's head. On the other side is the départementale 526, a winding road that leads to the peaceful stone village.
Plaisians has farmland planted with beautiful olive, apricot, cherry and lime trees. In the past, wheat, spelt, wheat, hemp and vines were grown here.
The village square in the Allègres hamlet, known as Place de Verdun, is shaded by old lime trees. It features the church with its square bell tower, the town hall, the village hall and the war memorial.
Aiguières is a small hamlet above Plaisians, hidden behind a mountain pass. At the entrance, you'll find a fresh, abundant source of water, flowing from a fountain known as the "Petite Meuse".
In the Girards hamlet, you'll find the Saint-Roch chapel, built between 1830 and 1832 by laymen. It has undergone various renovations and is still in use today. On the façade, set in a glass niche, is a statuette representing Saint-Roch.
Beyond Aiguières, you'll find lavender fields and old sheepfolds that have been converted into second homes. Numerous shepherds and their flocks cross the passes of the Nible, Banne and Geine mountains. The Guibert district is the highest point in the commune, offering views of Dévoluy and the southern Alps.
