Resting on the edge of a rocky spur, Saint-Benoît is one of our most beautiful hilltop villages. Be sure to admire the village's beautiful houses, adorned with dated lintels or decorated with mysterious symbols, and the magnificently restored church.

Perched on a spur overlooking the first widening of the Roanne valley, and locking in a ford, Saint-Benoit was in the Middle Ages merely the annex to a more powerful position: the castrum of Betton. The village resembles a ship aground on the rocks of the Roanne, with the church at the bow and the ruins of the castle at the stern.
The whole village is built around a single street, and the ridge on which it is built is so narrow that most houses are built on the slope. Some lintels are dated or engraved with symbols.
Situated on the route of the GR 95A, the commune offers many opportunities for walking. You can swim in the Roanne river at the foot
foot of the village.
