Sauzet
With its medieval village with a rich past, its hiking trails, its generous agriculture, its welcoming park and its shops, Sauzet is a village where life is good.
The old village is a maze of narrow streets leading to the Courtine, a hilltop square. The Dauphin, future King Louis XI, stayed here regularly, even setting up the first post office. With its towers, walls and gates still intact, old Sauzet retains its medieval allure. Marks of the past can be seen here and there, in the labyrinth of alleyways: gargoyles, machicolations, doors, mullioned bays... At the top of the esplanade stands the Saint-Lambert church, built in 1100. It was extensively restored after the Wars of Religion, and the date 1672 is engraved on the keystone of the entrance door. On the way back down, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to exiting through one of the three gates in the fortifications, now pierced by other openings.
