Sur les Chemins de la Clairette - Au pays des Marnes
Pedestrian sports, CourseThe terroir of Barsac, the birthplace of Clairette, is essentially made up of marl, which very early on revealed its quality for viticulture, and in particular for the expression of the Muscat grape variety, which flourishes at the foot of the slopes.
From the hamlet center, cross the bridge in the direction of the yellow letterbox in the wall. At the intersection, take the right-hand road. Cross a bridge with metal railings and follow the narrow road upwards. It passes the last houses in the village and continues through the vineyards towards the hamlet of Les Meyries, at the foot of a marl cirque whose hues range from beige to dark grey. You pass a lavender field on the right, then a vineyard. Leave the access road to Les Meyries and take the stony path between the top of the vineyard and a meadow. The view widens from the Barsac vineyards to those of Vercheny, beneath the imposing silhouette of the Trois Becs. The path passes below the hamlet of Les Meyries, fords a stream that is often dry and turns right to run alongside a vineyard facing the rocks of La Pare. Note the southern species that line the path (thyme, Montpellier aphyllantes). You pass an old cottage. The marl-limestone sedimentation is clearly visible above the vineyard on the left. After passing a second cottage in a walnut orchard, the path crosses a ford, bends to the right and runs level with a field of walnut trees to join a signposted route. Take this path to the right as you descend. It takes you back to the village (ignore the paths to the right and left). When you reach the first houses in Barsac, go down the small road. You'll come to a house with red shutters; take the right-hand path back to your starting point.
