Sur les chemins de la Clairette : le sentier viticole

Clairette de Die has a long history here. The importance of the vineyard is the best proof of this. Discover this educational trail detailing the different stages of vine-growing on the Vercheny le haut terrace overlooking the Drôme.

How to get there :
On the RD 93 at Vercheny, take the small road leading to Vercheny-le-Haut. After a series of hairpin bends, you come to the hamlet of Peyrache. The parking area and start of the circuit are a hundred metres further on, near the war memorial and the green sign "Découvrir la vigne".

Walking guide :
You'll have no trouble finding your way around this circuit, which is punctuated by signs put up by the Syndicat vinicole pour la défense de la Clairette de Die. They present the major themes of viticulture: pruning, de-budding and flowering, trellising, terroir, vine protection, phylloxera, harvesting.
A small road, which soon becomes a farm track, takes you past the cemetery and into the heart of the vineyard, where the view opens up over the Drôme and the lower Roanne valley. But the "stars" of the area are undoubtedly the Trois Becs to the south of you. As they face east, you'll need a sunny morning to take full advantage of the light effects on their cliffs. After a 1/4-hour walk, you reach the end of the circuit near the "Terroir" sign overlooking a ravine. Turn your back on the Trois Becs to take the gravel path that climbs boldly up the slope and soon returns to a leisurely pace. Gradually, the hamlets of Peyrache and Vercheny le Haut reappear, dominated by the pretty cliffs of Roche Ronde. When you reach the road, turn right to return to your vehicle, passing a field of lavender, another important Diois crop.
