Although no building has ever stood on its summit, "La Citadelle" is the name of the mountain to the north of the village of Montbrun (an oppidum may have existed in Gallo-Roman times).

The château is easily visible from the village heights. It was the property of the lord of Montbrun, "Charles Dupuy de Montbrun", who was a very active Huguenot leader during the Wars of Religion (second half of the 16th century). He took part in numerous battles, liberating besieged towns throughout the south-east of France.

Departure point: Montbrun-les-Bains, alt.610 m, parking in front of the town hall.

1. Take the main road towards Séderon. Continue for 800 m on the D 542.

2. Leave the main road and take a small road on the left, lined with lime trees. Go straight ahead at the first intersection. The road follows a small stream to the "Tremol, alt.650 m" crossroads.

3. Take the left-hand track up to a small pass.

4. Continue along the left-hand track, which offers a magnificent view of Mont Ventoux and, a little further on, Reilhanette, one of the small perched villages in the Toulourenc valley. The path becomes stony and steeper.

5. At the "La Citadelle" intersection, alt.690 m, take the path slightly to the left for 50 m, then the path to the right which passes close to a fenced-in property. Follow the yellow markings on this section.

6. At a small road, turn left towards Montbrun.

7. Pass the Porte Sainte Marie (stone arch opposite), go through the village under the Belfry gate and continue on the Route de la Bourgade to arrive above the parking lot (stairs on the right for access).
