On foot, on a mountain bike or on horseback, discover the Drôme through a total immersive experience on these long-distance routes. From the evocative GR (long-distance footpath) « In the Footsteps of the Huguenots » to the wild and unspoilt « Grande Traversée du Vercors », not forgetting the « Tours de Pays de la Drôme des Collines » or the Baronnies area; it’s for you to choose.
For lovers of unspoilt wide-open spaces and wild nature.
On foot
In addition to the GR and GRP networks there are a couple of special routes which may interest you.
The first is the European long distance footpath SUR LES PAS DES HUGUENOTS, 1600 km in length from the Dauphinois Protestantism museum at Poët-Laval to Bad Kalrshafen in the Land of Hesse in the middle of Germany. The path traces the historic route of the Huguenots towards Switzerland and Germany following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685-1690). The route crosses the Drôme along a 58 km section and, since 2015, this French part has been designated the GR965.
The second is the GRANDE TRAVERSÉE DU VERCORS for lovers of wide-open spaces and wilderness.
On a mountain-bike
The Drôme is a mountain-biking paradise with 3500 km of circuits from the north to the south of its territory. Every track and each path reveals the diversity of the topography and landscapes.
The mountain-biking TOUR DE PAYS in the DRÔME DES COLLINES will lure you with its soft undulations engulfed in myriad shades of green; its paths lined with stone walls. Spend some time under the shade of walnut trees and the gourmet stage at Tain-L’Hermitage (town where Valrhona chocolate is made and also boasting many wine cellars).
As for the mountain bike TOUR DE PAYS in the BARONNIES (DRÔME PROVENÇALE), it’s all the pleasures of the South of France that you will encounter midst olive groves, lavender fields, aromatic plants and all the mineral wealth of the Baronnies Provençales regional natural park.
