Le Parc Jean-Perdrix

A large 24-hectare park with water towers designed by the architect Philolaos. It features a vast lake, an amphitheater and an orienteering course.

In 1962, to cope with its growing population, the City of Valence, under the impetus of Mayor Jean Perdrix, decided to create a new district, in the form of a "priority urbanization zone" (ZUP), designed by the architect André Gomis.

Work began in 1969 and continued until May 1971. "The sculptor Philolaos combines functional objects with artistic research, transforming water tanks into contemporary works of art, a true symbol of the city of Valence.

The death of the architect André Gomis in 1971 and the change of municipality called into question the development of the area around the water tower, which was never completed. In 1981, the water tower was awarded the "quartier de l'horloge" prize for the best urban art work of the 1970s in France.
